Unfortunately these meetings have now ceased at the moment In 2003, some of the Idwal Close residents in Peasedown St John asked about the possibility of having a get-together on a monthly basis. Three of us from Carlingcott Chapel were willing to take this on, for a three-month stint initially, to see what interest there was, and to gauge what sort of activity/format would be required for future meetings, if it was decided to continue. We planned to meet on the third Wednesday of each month at 3 pm and the titles of the first three meetings were: 21st May 2003: Send a...WHAT??? (the charity Send a Cow, presented by Capt Gerald Mann and his wife, Pam) 18th June 2003: Bibles for Children (presented by Ted Hudson) 16th July 2003: Any Questions (a panel of four, plus a Chairman)
Our first three meetings went well, apart from a slight hitch in July, when only the Chairman and one out of four panelists turned up for our Any Questions afternoon! Well done to Rev. In October, we enjoyed a visit from Frank and Alison Finnie, who explained in detail about the highs and lows of working with Operation Christmas Child, the shoebox people. By the way, thanks to all those who contributed so generously to the total of 14 shoeboxes, plus a few binbags full of a variety of other items, which were taken to the collection points before Christmas. In November, Mrs Gill gave a talk on the origins of various Christmas items - cards, for instance - and then gave us the opportunity to make a card for ourselves. This caused much hilarity in some quarters and furrowed brows in others! But a good time was had by all.
The numbers attending the meetings have not been huge, but all who have come along seem to have enjoyed them, so thanks to them for making the effort. The next three meetings were:
