March 2006
We often think of March winds and April
showers, and these cold, gusty winds can be very treacherous. They
herald wintry storms to follow, and remind us of when Jesus was with
His disciples on the Sea of Galilee and they were afraid and Jesus
said, "Ye of little faith." When the storms of life battle against us
and we are overwhelmed by circumstances we have to great show great
faith in God who never changes.

December at Carlingcott 2005
During this month everyone seems to
be busy in various way, in preparation for Christmas a wonderful
celebration. In the hustle and bustle of modern life
we are apt to forget that we celebrate the birthday of Jesus, when God
sent His only son to redeem us all. Christmas happens in a loving heart
for somewhere deep inside us is where Christmas will start.

Christmas Morning Carlingcott - 25th December 2001
The decorated church over the Christmas period was the
resplendent venue for the Christmas morning service.

enlightened the congregation about the 'Light ' coming into the world and the meaning of Christmas. He produced the everlasting theme of the
carol service when the traditional carols were sung.
Readers were R. Rich, J. Hookins, K. Moxham,
C. Ryan, & J. Rich. Two duets were sung by Tim Moxham & his daughter, K. Moxham which
delighted all present.
Mr C. Ryan offered a prayer for this Holy
season.

Christmas at Carlingcott - 23rd December 2001
In a seasonally decorated church of winter
evergreens & candles the glow of this by Pearl Avis was a contrast to the freezing cold outside. A huge decorated Christmas tree, at the
front of the church, with the crib in front. All willing members helped with further decorative items.
The Christmas tea took place before the
evening service when all attending were able to sample an appetising array of Christmas goodies, & the familiar cup of tea.
As usual the evening service took place and
the Sunday school proved to be splendid, arranging a varied programme for the traditional Carol Service. Miss J. Hookins & Mr J. Rich have
had a most successful year with their scholars at Sunday School.
Readings were given by Mr A. Avis,
Mrs R. Rich, Mr R. Gregory, Rachel Hale, Holly George, & Louise Hale.
The preacher was Mr Colin Ryan who gave most
interesting stories depicting the Christmas Message.
The whole Sunday School, Rachel, Louise,
Holly, Luke, Beth, Katrianna, Catherine, Natasha, Patrick, Toby, Yasmin, & Eleanor sang new carols & with the words portrayed on a massive
screen so the congregation could join in.The lively carols were assisted by Miss Joan Hookins
on her guitar & also some percussion instruments used by the scholars with great gusto.
A play entitled No Room was presented
by the children who were eager to give an impressive rendering. With Rachel Hale playing the flute & Holly George playing the clarinet, they
played a duet of special Christmas music.
Traditional Christmas hymns were sung by the
congregation & Mr Ryan gave prayers to conclude the service.
Refreshments were served after the evening
service in the schoolroom where Christmas greetings were exchanged & presents given to member of the church.
Congratulations to the Sunday School scholars
who did very well in gaining mention of their religion knowledge & be of use in future studies.

The 150th Church Anniversary was held
on the 8th & 9th December 2001
The church, beautifully decorated for Christmas by Mrs Pearl Avis, other members
assisted with other contributions & a post box was erected in the porch.
On Saturday evening, 8th December a
splendid concert was given by the Timsbury Ladies Choir when Diane was the soloist, Mrs Goldsworthy conducted the choir & the accompanist was
Mrs Yvonne Burge with her musical talent & Mr Ronald Gregory was the usual organist when Mr Jonathan Rich accompanied, as a Carlingcott
tradition, on his violin. As this church has had a instrumental orchestra over the years it was known as The Fiddle Chapel.
The Vicar of Camerton & his wife were special guests and Rev. Douglas Brewer was the
chairman and Mr Leslie King gave an inspiring message about the foundation of the church & the preservation of it, to be set to all who
would follow, as he had preached here for forty years.
Services were performed on Sunday. The morning preacher was Mr Douglas Garraway
assisted by his wife & he gave an appreciative address about the history of the church, when the Parfitt family helped the church
financially, prayers were said for Mrs Joan Cracknell & family, as Joan, Cyril & family had been stalwarts of this church.
In the afternoon there was an amazing, sumptuous tea provided by the members when a
150th birthday cake, beautifully made, was presented by Mr Albert Hale & by coincidence it was his birthday too! Although he is not 150 years
old!!!
At the evening service Mr Owen James, a lifelong preacher in this church gave a most
interesting sermon assisted by John Osborne, a farmer poet & Rita, when they recited & sang duets with their accompanist. Mrs Anne Emery, a
past Sunday school pupil gave a rendering of Little Jim, which she recited in this church so many years ago, & was a surprise item for
her former Sunday school teacher Miss Cora Brock.
Mr J Rich took photographs & exhibited items of Church history & local interest.
Refreshments were served after the evening service & a social time was spent by those present.
